Weddings with Buds on B: A Floral Experience Guided by Season and Story

Posted by Amelia Hollis on

Hi, I’m Mia

Florist, designer, and the heart behind Buds on B.

I’ve been flowering since my teenage years (over 14 years now) and have been running my own floral business for more than 9 of those. I stumbled into floristry in high school, after deciding horses weren’t quite my future. My parents encouraged me to learn a trade and my mum found me an apprenticeship at a local florist on the main street of Gympie. From that very first day, I was hooked.

Creativity has always been part of me, from scrapbooking and sewing to garden projects and even renovations. Floristry became the perfect outlet for that energy. I’ve never been afraid of hard work, and when I’m not flowering, you’ll often find me helping on my sister’s properties, swinging a hammer, or knee-deep in the garden. Definitely not the delicate stereotype people expect when they meet a florist!

What matters most to me is creating something meaningful.

Whether I’m designing for a wedding, a memorial, or a daily bouquet, I work intuitively — guided by texture, tone, and whatever the season brings. I take in the energy of the space, the mood of the moment, and let the flowers do the talking.

Our Approach to Weddings

At Buds on B, we wear many floral hats — from retail floristry to farewell flowers and full event styling. But when it comes to weddings, we take on only a limited number each year.

Why? Because we give every part of our business our full creative attention and we want to bring the same depth and care to your big day.

We actually love working within shorter timeframes, often taking on weddings just a few months out or even within the same year. That’s when our best work happens: when we can select what’s flourishing in the moment, guided by season, quality, shape, and movement, not just ticking boxes for specific blooms.

We’re inspired by perfect imperfection a twisted stem, a ruffled petal, the magic of nature in its most organic form. We don’t promise exact flower varieties, because that’s not how we work. Instead, we offer designs that are intuitive, intentional, and uniquely yours. Crafted with care, grounded in the season, and inspired by the story of your day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should we book?
We often work best within the same year or just a few months out. This allows us to quote accurately and select the freshest seasonal blooms. Depending on the scale and style of your wedding, we can sometimes take bookings as little as 4 weeks out.

Can I make changes after booking?
Absolutely. We know your vision can evolve! You're welcome to add items (even after final payment), with any extra costs clearly outlined. If you're looking to remove items, this will depend on how close we are to the wedding date, as flowers and materials are often ordered in advance.

Can you work within my budget?
We’ll always help you make the most of your budget, offering options that achieve the biggest impact while keeping the overall design cohesive and beautiful.

Can I request specific flowers or colours?
Yes, please do! Knowing your favourite flowers helps guide the overall mood and style. While we can’t guarantee exact varieties, we’ll always do our best to capture your palette using the best blooms available at the time.

Will you deliver and set up on the day?
Yes — we offer full delivery and installation so you can enjoy your day stress-free. For some designs, pickup is also available if you're after a more DIY approach.

What flowers will be in season for my date?
Great question! Flower seasons shift, and many varieties are imported these days. Rather than guarantee specific blooms, we work from your vision and colour palette, then select flowers that best match in tone, shape, and texture — always honouring what’s in season and available.

Can you repurpose ceremony flowers for the reception?
Definitely! and we highly recommend it. We love designing statement ceremony pieces that can be thoughtfully reused during your reception for maximum impact and value.

Do you offer hire items like vases, arbours, or candles?
We’re a flowers-first studio focused on small and intimate weddings. We do have a small range of pedestal stands for hire and can provide vases if needed. We don’t supply candles, arbours, or large-scale props, but we’re more than happy to work with your stylist or planner.

Do you offer floral styling for signage, welcome tables, or cakes?
Yes! We love adding floral touches to signage, welcome tables, cake displays, and all those thoughtful little details. Just let us know what you're imagining and we’ll guide you on what’s possible.

Do you do large-scale floral installations?
As a small team, we don’t typically take on large-scale installs, but we’re always happy to discuss simpler designs that align with our style and capacity. Let’s talk through your vision and see what we can do!
